Since I and many others blog about life. And since we are required to report any revenues from those blogs to the tax man. Are not 100% of our daily expenses eligible as tax reductions, if you put AdSense on your blog? It's tax time. Thought you'd like that.

SiliconBeat: Yahoo has filed suit against a group of seven former employees for stealing trade secrets, drawing heavily from archived Yahoo instant-messaging conversations between the group.

Randy: Let me get this straight. They planned the defection from Yahoo! using Yahoo! instant messenger, a centralized IM client controlled by their employer. What idiots! For those that don't work for Yahoo!, the Yahoo! instant messenger sends plain text messages that can easily be traced at your Internet gateway by any employer. Same goes for MSN messenger.

After watching the Olympics, I have one thing to say. That's not a backflip. This is a backflip.

One of the top searches on Google of late is NYP Tammy, which stands for Nanyang Polytechnic school student named Tammy, who had some nasty sex videos of herself make the rounds on the Internet. And of course, the parodies follow.

Austin Business Journal:  Austin Ventures LP wants to buy the rest of the shares of 724 Solutions Inc. that it doesn't already own. Austin Ventures says it offered $3.07 per share in cash. [cut] The stock of 724 Solutions closed Monday at $3.64 per share.

Randy: Looks like my days of laughing at 724 financial statements are nearing a quick end. The problem here is that most of the value in this company are in its loss carry forward, which Austin, as a U.S. based company could never realize. Unless they plan on quickly flipping some assets. Expect Austin to break up the company and sell the remainder (the loss carry forward and a contract programmer) to Bell Canada or similar. The value of the loss-carry-forward is several times the offer price.

PR: Balthaser Online, Inc. announced today that the United States Patent & Trademark Office has awarded the company U.S. Patent No. 7,000,180 entitled, "Methods, Systems and Processes for the Design and Creation of Rich-Media Applications via the Internet." Recently, some unnamed organization, ranked iBLOGthere4iM as one of the top 100 million blogs that matter.
One of my blogs, The RSS Blog, just hit #100 on BlogPulse profiles.

I'm subscribed to about 400-500 feeds (I think, I didn't actually check. Laziness). Truth is most of those feeds are 99% crap. Truth is, I'm really only subscribed (read fan) to two blogs.

  1. http://www.gapingvoid.com/ Rmail
  2. http://dilbertblog.typepad.com/ Rmail

In you are subscribed to this blog, then I assume you are also subscribed to the above. It's a virtual splicing thing (no FeedBurner required). If you aren't getting them already, then click the Rmail button to get them in your inbox.

For a quarter century, Empire Strikes Back was my favorite movie. No longer. I watched X2 X-Men United twice this last week with my kids. Now, we can't wait for X3: The Last Stand. I remember before the first X-men movie was released, I thought it could be one of the best ever. What a flop! X2 was much much much better.

Randy: Actually the important news is that they finally admitted to perfecting the Big Toilet Bowl in the Sky where all investment money goes to get flushed into oblivion. It just came around. Sometimes I feel so good knowing that while I was one of the officially titled Key Employees of this company it soared as the greatest IPO in Canadian history, then management screwed me, I left and ever since it's been this big all consuming toilet bowl. Pathetic!

One of the most destructive anti-patterns in business is intellectual violence.

Intellectual Violence Antipattern happens when someone in the team tries to show off his knowledge in technology and intimidate other team members

In almost any technical meeting, only one or two individuals at the meeting will thoroughly understand the issues being discussed. Quite often those individuals will attempt to talk well above the knowledge of the other participants in order to dominate the agenda.

I've worked on many occasions with such people, but I have this inquisitive nature that reveals these people 10 minutes after I return to my desk, check the facts (thanks Google) and find they are a fraud. The problem is how to reveal their fraud to others. Pointing out single cases of untruths is usually met with "nobody's ever right 100% of the time." Repeatedly pointing out cases usually makes you look like you are the bad guy.

Every few months, somebody reports that Gates is selling large amounts of Microsoft shares. Gates sells millions of shares several times per year and like it's news, somebody always reports on it.

You gotta remember that the Web is really all about me. I really can't stand it when Dave Walker posts about del.icio.us. You know Joshua pays him $10 per post. Tell you what Dave, give me $10 and you can posts about me. It's about me and my not-for-profit Website KBCafe.com right?  And the rumour I sold KBCafe to Veritek for $5 million is 99% false.

PR: Private industry alone cannot effectively influence foreign government policies on issues like the free exchange of ideas, maximum access to information, and human rights reform, and we believe continued government-to-government dialogue is vital to achieve progress on these complex political issues.

Randy: Yahoo! is entirely correct. If the U.S. government wants Yahoo!, Microsoft and Google to challenge China, then the U.S. government is free to create laws that force their hands. For instance, the U.S. government could introduce a law that prohibits a U.S. company from censoring the information about Tiananmen square and Google would have to comply. Of course, the government won't, but somehow Google should do this on their own. It's called political grandstanding.

Randy: Here's the actual patent applications. And a second.

Police are investigating whether as many as seven teenage girls have been sexually assaulted by men they met on the street. The girls, ages 12 to 16 say they were fondled or had consensual sex with men who turned out to be older than they claimed. None of the incidents appeared to be violent, said the Police Sgt. He said it was difficult to determine the exact number of victims because some girls have been reluctant to disclose that they met their assailants online. The streets allows walkers to communicate and can include exchanging photos, personal information and even cell phone numbers.

I just watched Flight 93, the A&E movie about the famed fourth airplane that crashed on 9/11. They had few details to go with, so I image that most of the movie wasn't simply made up. This created a movie full of cellphone calls with wifes and mothers. Dragged out, but none-the-less worth watching.
