An interview with Blogger of the Day, Peter Dawson of Thought Flickr's.
iBt4iM: Tell my readers who you are.
Peter Dawson: I'm a 42 year old blogger who is kicking back and enjoying the new ways. I'm was born in the Silicon Valley of India, Bangalore. I started my career in Catering Management, wanting to be a Chef. But suddenly my Dad passed on and Mom could not afford the whole 5 years of college. So one fine day she told me, I have X amount of rupees left for your studies, what do you want to do? Now, way back in '86 the real hot thing was computers. So I enrolled into a computer school- NIIT and did a BASIC language course. Between then and now, I have seen a lot of stuff with programming, project management and all that nice but dirty stuff. My career had taken me thru assignment in Asia, Middle East and traveled thru Europe. During my last assignment in the Middle East, I flipped a coin as a direction setter. Heads to Canada and Tails to Australia. Oh , well for the last 6 years , me has been in Canada :)- In short, I am an open, curious minded person with a lot of zest for life, community and knowledge. I am currently employed with a F50 company in the vertical segment of Transportation and Supply Chain. I value integrity, truth and trust . More details can be read at my about me page
iBt4iM: What's your blog? What's your blog about?
Peter Dawson: I initially created a blog on Blogger, but did not like the behaviour and UI of that platform . I then moved onto Typepad. I run a blog called as thought flickrs. It's the "PeterDawson home of thought". This is one of my sandboxes, which I place my thoughts into. Now, I need to dive a little deeper into what my blog technique. The Red Monk (yes, that blogger, who is on Sun CEO blog roll) , described my behaviour as thlinking - "You just need to point at something and say why you're doing so. Or ask what other people think of the thing you're point at." This was one of the first indicators that I was blogging uniquely. (mea culpa- yeah it looks as if I am pimping myself there !) As a blogger, I also troll a lot and comment on various blogs. I believe, this is where true conversations happen, this is part of my ongoing research in the " attention economy". As a forum member on blogs and other lists, I currently hold minor status here. I cut information on google and also haunt other forums and groups. Like the LP's in Ontario say : "Yours to discover"-. That's like me :)-
iBt4iM: What secondary blogs do you have? Linkblogs? Moblogs?
Peter Dawson: I also have a vertical segment blog that is strategic in nature. It deals with Transportation and Supply Chain. The Value Props range in anything to a $1B and at times more. As an emergent entity, I also linkbloging . I am a Road Warrior riding a Blackberry device. I also harverst information using alerts and clips.
iBt4iM: Why do you blog?
Peter Dawson: I blog, because I have infonugget that I deem important, interesting, good to keep etc. These thoughts and insight needs to be placed in the community. Blogging permits this to happen. Most Blogs are about information, created by human beings. I like that that. People are the only resource which is hard to compute. However on the flip side, this could also mean, computing this the only resource to tap into the congnizeable social patterns. A good paradigm of such a thought is the golden projects. Blogs permit such congnization via simple RSS, tags, clouds and comments. This gives me a wonderful tapestry, which permits me to paint my own canvas and observe life in the digital enviornement. I am taking back-- my crayons to scribble --Wherever2.0, Whatever2.0 and ToWhomever2.0. These are my thoughts, I'll share what I am thinking. "I Blog, therefore I am" - is a statement I can live with )-
iBt4iM: What are your favorite blogs?
Peter Dawson: I really think that my fav is Google Blogoscoped. The community there is excellent. Its very vibrant, full of good people with cutting knowledge. For MSFT, I normally track minimicrosoft, Scobles and bink.nu. For Yahoo, I take a lot a little from Jermey and their official pages. But, this covers only the GYM spectrum. My Feeds are basically dynamic. As I move around, I make and break connections depending on content, viewpoints and interesections. My last share with OPML is here.
iBt4iM: What do you do when you are not blogging?
Peter Dawson: Beers and watching movies and Games !! Other then that, I Like chillin out in a Jazz bar now and then. I like my latest reading list was just culled. In between, I manage approx 4-6 hrs/week on a tennis court, gym. This keeps me going too :)-

iBt4iM: Tell my readers who you are.
Sterling Camden: Randy, thanks for this opportunity to speak on your blog. You’re a true promoter of the blogging community. I’m Sterling W. “Chip” Camden. I’ve been an independent software developer for 15 years now, and I’ve developed software for hire for the last 28 years. I never studied computers in school; I learned it all on the job.
iBt4iM: What's your blog? What's your blog about?
Sterling Camden: My blog is called “Chip’s Quips” (http://www.chipsquips.com/). It’s not focused on one topic – it’s a place where I can let my thoughts wander a bit, as you can see from my cumulonimbus tag cloud in the sidebar. Some of the topics I regularly cover include the social web, programming, technology, diet, exercise, literature, and life. So far I’ve navigated clear of politics and religion, but I might have to collide with one of them some day.
iBt4iM: What secondary blogs do you have? Linkblogs? Moblogs?
Sterling Camden: I don’t know if it qualifies as a blog yet, but I intend to make it one: “Chip’s Tips for Developers” (http://www.chipstips.com ). This site contains programming tips, tricks, and downloadable examples in a variety of programming languages. I’m planning to move it to WordPress so I can easily add features like an RSS feed, user comments, and tagging.
iBt4iM: Why do you blog?
Sterling Camden: Interesting that you should ask me that question today, Randy. Just this morning on my daily run I was asking myself, “What are my objectives in blogging?” I love to blog – I’m compelled to blog – but I wanted to enumerate my goals so I could at least have some excuse for this obsession. I came up with these:
- To improve my writing skills. Not that blogging particularly helps with grammar and spelling, but the best way to become a better writer is to write often. You get more comfortable spewing words onto a page, and better able to mop up afterwards. I’m hoping one day to author books as well.
- Community. I work from my home, so I spend most of my time talking to programs rather than people (okay, a lot of the time I’m talking to myself). Blogging provides a way to talk to people all over the world, and sometimes they even talk back.
- Career opportunity. By interacting with people who are exploring new technologies, I just might hit on an idea or find a client that helps make work more fun and more profitable.
- To make money. This one’s pretty much an afterthought, as my Adsense income shows (I recently broke the $5 barrier! I’m talking US $5 here). But it would be cool if I could make enough money blogging to be able to do that more and do other things less.
It’s not about communicating with my clients. Not yet anyway. If my existing clients read my blog, I’m sure they’re mostly thinking, “how does he have time to write this crap while I’m waiting for him to finish (insert project here)?”
iBt4iM: What are your favorite blogs?
Sterling Camden: You can find my entire blogroll at Share Your OPML under SterlingCamden, but here are a few of my most favorite blogs (in alphabetical order):
iBt4iM: What do you do when you are not blogging?
Sterling Camden: Besides work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids, running with my dog, reading books, watching baseball and football, and playing games. I prefer games with a subtle social engineering component, like bridge and backgammon (I’d probably make a good phisher). My favorite books are about history, philosophy, and humor – though I like a good novel, too.

Some ideas from Amazon for Father's day gifts.
From a friend: We had a very scary incident with Kylin Saturday night all because of some candy. It's a liquid that's sour and you just spray it into your mouth. I was right by Kylin and her friend and heard them say that it would be fun to see what it would taste like if the drank some instead of just sprayed it. (you know, typical kid fun stuff, I thought nothing of it) So Kylin said she'd try it and took the lid off (it's just like a pump style hair spray top) and she took one sip. I turned around to ask if she was ok cause I thought she was making noises like when water or something just doesn't go down right and realized that she was just gasping over and over again for air and wasn't actually breathing. She was having a laryngospasm!
What is and cause Laryngospasm.

I would get online, meet a broad and be mailing her the check the next day. I saw damn near 50 states in just taking planes, picking up money. I would have my money in my ass, my shoes, and I would always shop wherever I went so if I got busted with the money, at least I got some clothes.
nbc5i: [The Bouncing Burglar] was attempting to rob Paul's Liquor Store [cut] when he fell through the ceiling and crashed to the floor. The video shows that the 30-year-old was knocked unconscious for about five minutes. When he came to, Bynum sat down on a beer keg inside the store, smoked a cigarette and waited for the store owner to unlock the door for police.
If you haven't heard, I run a continuous contest called Play Tag with Me where the person who sends me the best link every month, gets a free book from Amazon (<$20). This week's winner is astreet for the Grim Reaper Prank video. Anyhow, I have no idea who astreet on del.icio.us is, so he'll have to reveal himself to win the book. Also, since I don't know him, I'm gonna have to do an axe murderer background check after I find out who he is and assuming he doesn't qualify or reveal himself, then I'll pick a 2nd best.
BTW, for those that don't know the rules, you can submit a link via del.icio.us using the for:randymorin tag and you can submit as many links as you want each-and-every month. Thanks and congrats to astreet.
