Last night, I returned to my house for the first day in more than 3 weeks (almost 4). Please excuse the lack of blogging while I was on vacation. I was pulling double duty and working nights to meet some deadlines while driving the RV half-way across Canada and the United States. Just like Robin Williams from RV. I think we watched that movie about 20 times in the last 3-4 weeks. Every campground has it available for sale and play it on their movie night. The RVing culture has really taken off. I'm back, get ready for some really interesting but useless posts.
I've seen some weird responses to blog comment posts, but today had to be one of the weirdest, if not, courtesy Tim Bray's blog.

While on vacation, I've been blogging mostly on the RV Dad blog. Join me over there, if you like.
I find that Edmonton, Ablerta WiFi really sucks. In most of North American, free and paid public WiFi networks work very well using the same algorithm. The SSID broadcast, a user connect, all requests are forwarded to an accounting webserver until you complete your payment and finally you get online. In Edmonton, all the network are configured to not broadcast their SSID and many of them have WEP passkeys. So, you can't just walk into a WiFi area, pay via credit card online and start surfing. In Edmonton, you have to make a face-to-face payment before they give you the SSID and WEP.
I'm quite technical, so I was able to figure this out, but someone coming from out-of-town would likely be so confused that they wouldn't know what to do. In fact, I've seen nobody else using the WiFi at West Edmonton Mall. They likely don't know how.
Here's video of yesterday's bridge collapse. My family and I were going to Minneapolis this month. Unsure if this changes those plans. Google maps of area.
