This one I simply don't understand. If about.com is worth $410 million, then I'm confused. Four-five years ago, they were a great source of information on the Web. Now, they are a great source of ads on the Web. I often find it hard to find the content thru the ads. NYTimes is the big loser in this deal. Primedia, who purchased about.com for $500 million is stock is the big winner. Since the purchase, PRM share price has dropped more than half its value. Running the numbers and you get $410 million in cash for about $200 million in shares.
about.com is really retarded. All the article on it are self-referral and full of bullshit. I really don't understand why google still index them and constantly put it in a high page-rank. Of the last 10 out 10 trips I was tricked by google search result to the website are totally useless. I mean, I don't mind if you have pageloads of ads, just be more competent and relevant please.
oh man i wish it would die already. but its still there. with tons of junk info and useless 'content' about.com sucks the shit out of a dead dog's asshole
I have never had a positive experience with About.com. In fact I've had nothing but a bad, horrible, starving monkey not getting a banana angry experience with them.
Crowded web pages, dead links in articles, poor article content. Misleading article titles. Example: About.com article about "Network Firewalls" and the article consists of "how to grow better flowers in your garden.".
It consist of nothing but an endless amount of redirected crap. The cut and paste authors are lazy and it's just over all crap. Every time I see an About.com page I'll leave and boycott their sponsors.
about.com sucks and is a useless pile of junk! i completely hate it when i use google and accidentally click on a stupid about.com link. all their articles are useless and they are hogging up tons of search results in google. i wish they would just die already!
FUCK CUNT FARTS. EVERYONE HAAAAAAATES ABOUT.COM. TO THE GUY THAT HATES THE PICTURES OF THE FUCKING ASSHOLE ARTICLE AUTHORS IM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU BROTHER.
I, TOO, GOOGLED "ABOUT.COM SUCKS" AND HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IT DOES INDEED SUCK, AND THAT IT WILL CONTINUE SUCK THE RANCID SEWAGE OF FAILURE UNTIL IT GRASPS FEEBLY AT ITS SHRIVELED GENITALIA IN ONE FINAL CONVULSION AND DIES.
About.com com sucks and wisegeek.com sucks even more (if that's possible). I have never understood why Google ranks these crappy SPAM pages so well and why any garbage article they write gets ranked high in the SERPS. It really reflects poorly on their search engine in my opinion.
Four years later, about.com still sucks and it doesn't seem to be going away. Google needs to stop rewarding sites that just link to themselves internally within a domain. You would think that would be an easy fix. Maybe they could try ranking sites based on how long people actually stay on a site.
can anyone link to any sites that legitimately criticize about.com? I'm trying to build up a list of reasons to give my boss why this site sucks huge piles of shit. but, sadly, I can't just link her to forums like this... needs to be a bit more "pro" looking! lol
I hate this fucking site too. It never comes up with anything useful and you can't ever leave them any feel back so they know they suck and they just don't want to hear it.
To you fucking asspissing cuntwads at about.com. FUCK YOU!! I hope your teenage daughters get assraped by drunk hobos and you get dragged a city block under speeding cars. Your site is nothing but a shitstain on the face of the internet and your lives are fucking worthless.
I wanted to add that I hate aboutdotcom also. I just went for some info and they have the info actually covered up with ads. Not even a way to close the popup.
I'm avoiding even clicking on them from now on. May they die the death that over useless sites deserve.
I just read a chunk of the TLDP manual covering the /var filesystem, verbatim, and stripped of any useful formatting. I guess they use a very permissive license, but it surprises me that the TLDP project is okay with this. And it makes me wonder what's wrong with their "Linux Guide" Juergen Haas.
about.com is the most ANNOYING website ever. It sucks donkey doo. I hate this piece of crap. It's always there when you don't need it; don't want it''; it sucks big time
