MSNBC: Manar was born with a rare condition known as craniopagus parasiticus, which occurs when an embryo begins to split into identical twins but fails to complete the process. One of the conjoined twins fails to develop fully in the womb.
I found it weird that the issue that these children were really triplets rather than twins was downplayed. There is one sister that was not conjoined and completely normal. She is shown at the end of the TLC kissing Manar. Weird that the egg split completely one way, but not the other.
its not entirely like abortion, if they kept manar like that, they both would of died eventually, so this is lesser than 2 evils, also what kind of life is that to live, its better to seperate them and save the life of 1 than seeing them both die.
I've seen the documentary as well. And I have to disagree with a former comment about how wonderfull the doctor is. The fact that he did this for free is exposure. He saw an opportunity and took it. I know he said that he is probably the only surgeon in the world who could do this, well I don't thnink so. I hate it when people do good stuff for more than the reason of doing good. It's always about commercial aspects as well. Look at all the artists lining up for fund raising concerts and stuff like that, I think that only half of those artist actually care about the actual fund raising. There are not many celebrities I actually believe when they say it's all about charity. A lot of them use it the wrong way around, they use charity for exposure en media attention where they should use media attention for charity. Look at all the US celebs, thay ALL have their own "foundation". If you don't have one, you're a nobody. What would you say if your manager or pr person says to you: sorry sir but don't make any anonimous donations, it doesn't do your reputation any good". How about your reputation? Do you know that there are thousands of children dieing every day? that more than half the world's population lives in poverty? That in countries like the USA 99 percent of the gross national product is made by less than 1 percent of the population? that the USA is actualy oficialy a third world country due to it's number of people living in poverty? there are a lot of things that should be general knowledge and commonly known but you can blame yourself and your countries' government because it is these things that the world leadres do not want you to know because it might cause mass hysteria. There are hundred times more things they will not tell you then there are things they will. so how about we relativize this twin story and open our eyes. Try to see that it is not going well on this planet. Not at all. I will not blame anyone or anything, But there is one country with a retarded redneck with a Kentucky Fried Brain Who Thinks That McDonalds Meat Comes From Old McDonalds Farm at it's head that could do something about it. I'm not saying that US is the blame, but they aren't doing much for the cause as well. It's a very powefull nation and it could make a big difference if it would. I will not start about USA stuff, because this could go on for hours. I'll leave it here. Thank you for your attention if you have come this far!
how in the world did that USA hater turn a blog about a parasitic birth into an anti USA tirade? If you live in MY Country, please type in your email address..i will gladly give you a one way ticket out..if you don't, work to improve whatever rat's nest you live in..you didn't have my attention, but you do have my pity..
People, this is an article to educate others about parasitic twins, this page is not here to have people like you start drama for the rest out there to see. Just get over yourselves.
I watched the programe in the uk, and my thoughts were mainly that no thought was given about the mothers loss of the parasitic twin, parasitic or not the pain of losing any child doesnt bear thinking about, so sad for her loss.and yes what a glory hunter that doctor was.
I never saw this tiny miracle on my television i was simply poking around on th einternet and came across it.
i live in a australia i am i young mother of a beutiful daughter and am pregnant i sat here and tried to put myself in the mothers shoes regardless of what you all think to be a mother and know that you had put breath into 3 loving lives and then lost two is a thought to painful to even comprehend so i say spare a thought for that poor mother and the sister still alive and think what a deep loss she will feel for the rest of her life but never really understand why
my prayers are with this family right till the end....
As the mother of a new baby girl it was very hard for me to watch this documentary but could not pull myself away. I wanted to hear more about the "parasitic" or underdeveloped conjoined twin's consciousness, and how life threatning it was to stay conjoined. It bothered me that they did not name the second head until after her death. It was not an IT, it was biologically a Girl, one of three triplets. So many ethical and heart wrenching dilemmas, it is very hard to get my mind around it. They told of another similar case where a boy and his twin were alive until the age of four, and then died only of a snake bite. and what troubled me was to see sweet little Manar smiling and happy before the operation, but so despondant, still, and uncomfortable in the months following. There was hope for her to make it-they almost succeeded, but she still died of complications. I cant help but think a few short happy years may have been better than traumatic surgery. Alas when we are faced with something so different it is difficult to know what the right decisions are. Deformity or not-- these things happen, it is just nature. I think its seems so disturbing to people because we see how growth, development, LIFE can branch out differently. it is increadible.
I saw the show and i want to say that it may be hard for you but i think that you are the lucky woman to have Manar......I would juts tell you that she is going to be the greates baby girl that you have..... My prayers are going to with your family to the end....
Omg, I saw this documentary on youtube.. aww..poor them, although I am glad Manar made it, that the operation was a sucsess, even though I was close to crying since the other part had to die... -sniffles- -Swanheart-
that baby should of been aborted and spared the expense of a painful life knowing there was some frigen mutated head attached to him.this is all ridiculous.grow some backbone ... abort and get over your religious paranoia. love, sick and tired of people procreating who should not be
I watched this on Channel Four... and I must say that it has effected me deeply... Only through the watching of such programmes do I begin to realise how ignorant I, along with the rest of the world actually is. I had never heard of this condition before, and it was truly heartbreaking. I am not a mother myself... but I think that it would be the absolute toughest decision a mother would have to make... the sacrifice of one child to let the other live. My heart went out to the mother... for whom it must have been devastating, Manar... who showed what it was to be a fighter... and to Islam... the other baby girl... who was frequently called a pariscite. She is in a better place... where she can finally be at peace... and in my eyes, she was not a pariscite... but a beautiful baby girl, the same as anyone of us, who just didn't get the chance to live and enjoy life like the rest of us... although we rarely do people like Islam justice... and enjoy our lives, we merley complain about the little things... which don't really matter anyway.
These things don't only happen in third world countries...they are as evolved" as the rest of us. This is just freaky stuff that happens everywhere. There are two conjoined girls in Minnesota and there are the other two joined at the head (one of them wants to be a country music singer) and I'm sure there are more than that. Thank goodness those mothers did not abort their children. They are beautiful, living, breathing human beings who have happy and sad lives just like the rest of us.
I am from Argentina, as you said, a "third world country not as evolved as yours", and let me tell you something; identical twins, they may or not be conjoined, occur because of a mutation of the fertilized egg... As it is developing into a regular baby, it copies al the DNA information and the it splits in two. Sometimes it's not separated completely: conjoined twins.
(not american people, you in particular) were as "evolved" as you said, then you should know how this process is, and that it has absolutely nothing to do with the country where you live or who you are.
I really wish this does not happen to you, because the decision about putting your childrens' life in danger just to give them the chance to lead a "normal" one, or at least one that's accepted by society must be terrible.
THIS PIC US REAL !! I FOLLOWED THE STORY FROM THE BEGGINING, THIS BABY ACTUALLY SURVIVED THE SEPARATION OF THAT THE TWIN. SHE WENT THROUGHT 18HRS LONG OF OPERATION. ...
There can not be God when this sort of thing exists. I mean what kind of sick, fucking twisted monster creates such an abomination? That can't be about personal choice! So how can any creature with conscienc smite a newborn life in this fashion? I mean yeah nobody's perfect but this? I am a head with a carrot body, thanks God. WHAT THE FUCK?!?? Intelligent design my ass. Next time anyone brings up the subject just show them the remains of this design. God is a sociopath? Only a demented serial killer would intentionally design a body like this. His plan? FUCK HIS PLAN!
To the commenter who said "there can not be God when this sort of thing exists", do you think there cannot be a God when death, or disease exists? Are you saying there can only be a god in a world where everybody and everything lives in perfect harmony, and nothing ever dies? Personally, I prefer living in a world where God doesn't make everything perfect.
No evolution, no free will, nothing bad ever happening (and thus, never any sadness or happiness) and a world population over 100 Billion, is that what you want? A God who directs every action of nature and of human existence? Sounds like a pretty crappy, albeit fairy-tale God.
This is just very upsetting, my heart goes out to the mother (father, if he is in the oicture) and the remaining children. You can never quess how you would feel put in the same situation, we have no right to judge.
I was really affected by the fact that the other twin was not even thought of as a real person. Even in this picture, she is not clothed. Did she not feel? Did she not deserve the same respect, love, and affection as Manar? The mother didn't portray any sort of mourning for her. What kind of mother is that? God bless both babies....
I didn't read all of the posts, cuz I don't care to, plus I started seeing "I'd cut it off with an axe." I don't feel like wasting anymore time on this. You're not funny. I do agree with the person who says it happens in third world countries because we're more advanced technologically, and it is true. Almost every pregnant woman in America can get an ultrasound and they would pick something like this up, quick. Then, they have to deal with the other choices, of Am I physically capable of taking care of a child with special needs? I think that at first glance, this mother was probably terrified but any good mommy loves their child no matter what. The important thing is that he's able to function and live a semi-normal life. The only question I have is the other baby alive or is it just a part of him?
to all the stupid ppl, that called the baby a part, how would u deal if it was your children it is sad to think that you don't even consider the fact that they r children and for the ppl that said abort the baby, SHE WAS A LIVING PERSON NOT GARBAGE TO BE DISPOSED OF!!! She didn't choose to be that way.... Maybe if it was ur child u would have been able to make that decision, but it wasn't ur choice u need to get a life and stop sticking ur nose in other ppls choices!!!
Why is is that people from the U.S. think they are the only civilised nation on Earth? you have inflated egos as you tend to be extremely ignorant of anything that happens outside your own little world-I know, I lived there for a time. I am proud to say that I am Australian & am aware of world affairs. This story is true and it is not for us to judge either God or the parents. Stop being so judgemental.

The other "part" ? The other "part" Was a baby girl, not a part. Learn to sound like an informed intelligent person. Not a bubble blowing cheerleader.
Is the other part of her alive?
so sad
was the other part of it alive?

I feel sorry about the other twin.
Maybe they could graft it to another body or something.
