Tristan used the AOL-Weblogsinc deal to devise a formula for valuating blogs. Basically, your blog is worth $564.64 per inbound link reported by Technorati. That means, my blogs are worth $206,093.60. Cool! Scoble must be a billionaire.

InsideGoogle used the formula to produce the following valuations...

  • InsideGoogle: $1,231,776
  • InsideMicrosoft: $369,420
  • Google Blogoscoped: $3,223,260
  • Scoble: $6,990,780
  • Steve Rubel: $4,290,348
  • Search Engine Watch blog: $4,086,180
  • Coolz0r: $219,960 (and its still a relatively new blog!)
  • Randy Charles Morin (KBCafe.com): $946,392; RSS blog: $225,600; iBLOGthere4iM: $166,944; AdWords blog: $15,228
  • Jeremy Zawodny: $2,500,212
  • Greg Linden: $752,376
  • Search Engine Roundtable: $1,791,828 (quite a wedding present)

Interesting, but inbound links are not how things like this should be valued… I could create a blog today called “what I think of bloggers” and write 50 sentences a day about 200 bloggers. that blog would be #1 on technorati and have 50,000 inbound links in a year. it doesn’t mean it would have any value.

things that matter: page views, revenue, reputation (which links don’t show).

If you can create a blog that would be #1 on Technorati and have 50,000 inbound links in a year, then you should do it. It would be worth at least $1,000,000. Being #1 on Technorati will translate to mega pageviews. Pageviews can be converted to revenue with Adsense.

BTW, I'm not taking any of these figures serious, it's just fun to run the numbers. KBCafe is worth $1B, not $1M. At least to me ;-)
